I have experienced my fair share of music festivals through the course of the years, but Mamby On The Beach is one that really stands out in my eyes as my new favorite little Chicago festival. Nestled on a few acres of  Chicago’s south side, Oak Wood Beach, sits a magical little festival that has a bit of everything going on, that a wide array of people can enjoy!

You enter the festival, by walking through a long tee-pee trail that pours out into a beachy, relaxed atmosphere. There are tiki-hut styled bars to fix you up a drink of your Caribbean dreams, while on the other side people are bending into playful yoga poses on an assortment of colorful mats. As you walk further down, there are colorful tents made out of intricate tapestries promoting tarot readings, hair braids, henna tattoos, and more!!!

Mamby runs two days long from 1-10PM Saturday and Sunday. It is only the third year of Mamby so it is fairly new to the festival scene! This year Mamby featured some big artists, such as Miike Snow, Flying Lotus, Cut Copy, MGMT, Local Natives, STRFKR, & Misterwives!  I absolutely LOVED it for being so accessible, small, and easy to navigate. There are only 3 main stages at the festival, as well as a silent disco tent, making it possible to walk from one end of the festival to the other in ten minutes or less!

I got to work the weekend as a photographer for, a media company owned by my friend that documents all the biggest festivals around the world!!! (Check them out!!!) I had so much fun documenting the cast of characters that attended Mamby through the weekend! As always, the unique and diverse crowds that attend festivals never cease to put a big ole grin on my face!

Talking stages, The Beach Stage (My personal favorite), this is the stage that has many of the main headlining acts, with easily the best view of the whole festival! One big stage is situated in the perfectly silky sand, while the endless blue of Lake Michigan stretches out for miles off to the side of you! The best part? The beautiful skyline of the windy city that adds to the backdrop of the already most perfect view to watch your favorite band!

On the far other end of the beach, you have the MixMag Tent, which is exactly as it sounds, it’s where you go to hear some heavy beats and mixing! This tent is heavy on electronic music, dancing, and performers of all sorts!

And finally, you have the Park Stage, the one stage that is not on the beach and is situated in between the art vendors and food trucks. This stage allows you to kick back in the grass and enjoy the beautiful songs that fill the air!

Some highlights of the weekend for me were the HUGE daily water balloon fights that happen on the beach, watching people get down in silence at the silent disco, and seeing STRFKR for the first time! Those guys know how to put on a show, and are such silly goofballs that will crowd surf dressed as astronauts countless times throughout their performance! Overall, I would HIGHLY recommend Mamby On The Beach to festival lovers, it is a unique festival that gives you the best of both worlds: Dancing on a beach with your toes in the sand and a drink in hand, all while getting carried away by some of your favorite artists!

I will be back next year! Whats your favorite music festival you have been to?

Comment below, I would LOVE to know!
